In what has now become an annual tradition, here is my list of 2022 new hotel openings. As you know, the difference between other list of new hotels that you may have seen is that I only present new boutique hotels openings in Europe, hotels that are small in space but big in style.

Croatia

Palazzo Rainis, Novigrad, Croatia

This new boutique and historical jewel of a hotel is located near the marina in this Istrian city. It was built toward the beginning of the 20th century in a neo-Renaissance Venetian style. It will have 16 modern rooms and suites with seaview, a spa, pool, beach and a stylish bar.

France

Les Hautes Mers, Ile d’Yeu

Les Domaines de Fontenille continue their expansion with the acquisition of Le Caillou Blanc on an island dear to my heart, Ile d’Yeu. This is where I was spending beautiful spring weekends as a child. The hotel with 17 bedrooms and an outdoor pool is being refurbished and will reopen in April. Starting in the fall and over the next two winter seasons, an extension will be built to install a spa with an indoor swimming pool, 8 additional bedrooms and a seminar room.

Chateau de Thoule sur Mer

Purchased by the Millesime Collection group, this former holiday centre will be transformed into a hotel. The group intends to keep the four facades but build new inside the castle. 45 rooms with a swimming pooln a spa and a target of opening in May 2022.

Chateau de Brindos, Anglet –

Just a few minutes from Biarritz Airport, Château de Brindos has been recently renovated and is scheduled to reopen in the spring of 2022. There are 29 rooms and suites, on a building set on the side of a private lake. They also have ten floating suites. Two swimming pools – one indoor and one outdoor – and a vast spa complete the picture.

Como Montrachet, Burgundy

COMO Le Montrachet will open in phases, with phase one scheduled to be completed in 2022. The hotel is located in Puligny-Montrachet, in the heart of the sought-after Côte-d’Or region. It will provide unparalleled access to some of the most famous Burgundy Grand Cru vineyards. Arranged across four heritage buildings, 31 rooms and suites will be converted into chic sanctuaries starting with Villa Christine. The phased opening of the hotel will also see a COMO Shambhala Retreat, the first of its kind in France.

In Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, on the French riviera, this new modern building promises to bring design and clean lines to the area. Each room will have fabulous views of the sea. The hotel has impeccable pedigree – being a sister one to Claridge’s, London . The 69 rooms have a subtle marine theme from design big-hitters such as Pierre Yovanovitch and André Fu. Food promises to be high gastronomy as supervised by former best restaurant in the world chef Mauro Colagreco. There is a fabulous infinity pool perched on the hill overlooking the blue sea and skies.

The former property of the brother of King Louis XIII will house a 5-star hotel with 44 rooms, including 11 suites, a gourmet restaurant helmed by Michelin-two-star chef Christophe Hay, a bistro, pastry kiosk, swimming pool and state-of-the-art Sisley branded spa. The grounds and gardens will be designed by landscape designer Raphaëlle Chéré.

Housing 55 rooms and suites beneath Europe’s largest thatched roof, the sprawling resort will feature two interconnected saltwater indoor and outdoor pools complete with counter-current system. Its contemporary design will feature a continuous glass facade, the largest on Sylt, to give the impression that the thatched roofs floats above, to blend into the rolling dunes and landscape beyond.

Due to launch in Spring 2022, the new 37-room hotel will be Hilton’s first on the glamorous Greek island, complete with private beach. Originally scheduled to open in 2019, it looks like this is taking much longer to complete. The new luxury retreat will sit on the western side of the beautiful Kéa island, which is only a short trip from Athens. The property will feature 75 villas. Guests will arrive on a private luxury yacht or via an exclusive resort helicopter. Iceland

Announced in 2019 to open in 2022, it’s still to be confirmed that this will be the real date.

The property is located on the rugged southern coast in Svínhólar near Lóni, the flatland at the southern end adjacent to the Lón Lagoon, which is separated from the North Atlantic Ocean by a beautiful black sand beach.

The 70-guestroom resort and private cottages will be built using renewable and locally-sourced materials. The resort’s welcome lounge will feel integrated into the surrounding environment and include a library, a cinema room, Earth Lab showcasing the project’s sustainability efforts, and a water bar. The Six Senses Spa will have a functional fitness center, yoga studio and comprehensive wellness programme.

Italy

Castle Elvira, Puglia

After being abandoned for almost 100 years, Castle Elvira, has been restored following an extensive three-year restoration project. The castle will have four en-suite guest bedrooms with two dedicated private salons, two dining rooms (formal and informal), a bar/piano room, two lounges, cinema and business suite. The castle’s roof terrace “guarantees” impressive sunsets. Families might enjoy the neighboring groundskeeper’s cottage which has two bedrooms and a private garden with sunken jacuzzi and outdoor shower. There will be a very big 753-square-foot swimming pool and, a 12-person jacuzzi and an ornamental pond set in a 37-acre estate with large citrus and olive groves.

Icaro, Dolomites

The new ICARO on the Alpe di Siusi in South Tyrol, located at an altitude of 1,910 metres above sea level, has been completely refurbished in the respect of its original structure. There are 29 rooms and suites all with panoramic views of the mountains, an indoor and outdoor panorama pool as well as a finnish sauna in the garden, a bio sauna and a steam bath.

From the owner of the iconic Italian resort Grand Hotel Tremezzo, comes the opening of a second exclusive Lake Como property. Perched above the charming village of Moltrasio, Villa Passalacqua sits on land originally owned by Pope Innocent XI. The historic mansion was constructed in the 18th Century and will feature just 24 suites, each individually designed to perfection. Guests will be able to explore the exquisite beauty of the Passalacqua grounds through hidden tunnels, secret bars, and of course, epic views of the marvelous lake glistening just below the villa.

There will be a lakeside pool and tennis court as well as an open-air gym located in an olive grove, outdoor spa treatments, sunrise yoga, and movie nights under the stars.

Bulgari Hotel Roma is touted as “an exceptional homage to the home of Bulgari and its greatest source of inspiration.” The Hotel will be located in the heart of the Campo Marzio neighborhood, minutes from the Spanish Steps, Via del Corso and the Bulgari flagship on Via Condotti. It will have a 65-foot-long pool, a 10,700-square-foot spa, a gym and library dedicated to the history of jewelry.

With 16 suites and a rooftop bar/restaurant overlooking the UNESCO-endorsed skyline, it’s the first major five-star hotel in the city. There will also be an indoor pool, which is quite unusual for hotels in ancient Italian cities.

Not much info on this new hotel that will open in Umbria in the Spring but from their instagram, you can see a beautiful old stone building renovated. It’s a former monastery renovated with some modern features and materials such as steel, wood, linen, and terracotta. Apart from 12 spacious rooms, a plants-forward restaurant will entice palates with the rich harvest of the Umbrian soil.There will be a pool.

It should come with what makes the other properties a draw: simplicity, nordic design fitted to the Italian landscape, world-class dining. There is currently a saltwater pool.

Located in the heart of Old Town, just steps from the waterfront along the pedestrian-only Vara de Rey, The Standard will inhabit a stark-white building with a collection of 53 rooms and suites, plus a freestanding private residence, Casa Privada. The rooftop pool and restaurant will provide stellar views of the city’s iconic Castle of Ibiza.

Casa Paredes, Caceres

Located in the Old City of Caceres, this new hotel is the rehabilitation of the Palacio de los Paredes-Saavedra, a 13th century palace with a tower. Its 1500 square meters are spread over three floors with a central atrium; In the old cistern from the 15th century you will find the spa and it will have an outdoor garden and a swimming pool. There will be no superior doubles here, because all rooms are superior. The smallest are 60 meters, have two showers with solid oak cabinets and marble bathtubs.

United Kingdom

Soho House Brighton

Not clear whether there will be rooms or not at this long awaited Soho House outpost. Located on the city’s Madeira Terrace, the club will retain some of the 1920’s architecture as it is a Grade II listed terrace. The result promises to include a gym, indoor and outdoor bars, a fish restaurant and a sun deck complete with that Soho House essential, a plunge pool.

Wildes Chester

Opening late summer 2022

Wildes Chester will feature 18 unique bedrooms, a spa with rooftop pool overlooking the city and a destination restaurant and bar, which will include outdoor seating overlooking Eastgate Street on the historic Rows of Chester. The Grade II listed building was developed in 1892 by architect Thomas M Lockwood and features huge fireplaces, stone windows and original beams. The first floor will be transformed into a luxurious and state-of-the-art spa with a relaxation area, nail bar and multiple treatment rooms. The roof of the hotel will be home to the rooftop pool, jacuzzi and terrace.

.A Palladian manor, located in the heart of Ireland by the Rock of Cashel in picturesque Co. Tipperary, Cashel Palace will be meticulously restored. Cashel Palace boasts a total of nine opulent suites, four of which are located in the historic Main House, four in our new Garden Wing and one in our Gate Lodge.

There will be a spa with luxury Bamford and Biologique Recherche treatments, a pristine pool and seaweed baths.

The Retreat Elcot Park

Housed in a Grade II-listed 18th-century building dating back to 1772 and located between Hungerford and Newbury, The Retreat was once the childhood home of poet Percy Bysshe Shelley. The hotel will comprise 55 bedrooms and two restaurants – an all-day dining brasserie and pan-Asian restaurant. Other elements include a whisky tasting room, honesty pantries on each floor, various meeting and events spaces, plus outdoor pursuits such as a walled working garden, tennis courts, an outdoor infinity pool (complete with designer cabanas and Whispering Angel pool bar), croquet lawns and children’s zone.

There will also be a health club, with pools, treatment rooms, steam and sauna, plus a gym, spin studio and wellness area.

Lympstone manor new pool

As I noted in my review of our stay at Lympstone Manor, the hotel is getting ready to inaugurate its outdoor swimming pool in 2022. There will also be a casual dining venue and bar in the adjacent pool house.

Fowey Hall, Cornwall

Again, this is not a new hotel, but an upgrade. The hotel did go through a renovation in 2020 and now will add 24 new rooms and an outdoor swimming pool by the Spring.

They are also completely relandscaping the grounds and driveway. 19 of the new bedrooms will be located in the hotel’s Garden Wing. A further five bedrooms will sit atop the spa, offering views of the Fowey estuary as well as uninterrupted views of the sea from an elevated position.

The additional rooms will see the hotel have a total of 60 bedrooms.
