In what has now become an annual tradition, here is my list of 2020 new hotel openings. As you know, the difference with my list is that it’s only new boutique hotels openings in Europe that I focus on.
In this post, I list those new hotels with a pool and with less than 40 rooms or so. I may have the occasional 70 rooms place if it really looks alluring and has a boutique hotel aesthetics.

New hotel openings in the UK
The Farm Yard, the new Newt hotel

I have posted about the plans the Newt have to build another hotel geared towards families with self-catering accommodations, a pool and the possibility to get food delivered to your door. When we stayed in December, a staff member told us that it’s likely to be called The Farm Yard, clearly making an association with the concept of Soho Farmhouse. The building works had progressed well when we visited so it’s on track to open in May.
The Harper, Norfolk

A former glass-blowing factory, the hotel will retain original flint and brick features complemented by delicate bespoke glass pieces and wood-burning stoves. The 31 bedrooms will offer four-posters and Casper mattresses. There will be two restaurants: Stanley’s, and The Harper for dining with a more casual atmosphere. A games room, outdoor spaces outdoor kitchen and a spa with indoor pool, hot tub, sauna and steam room and two treatment rooms should keep you entertained after an invigorating walk on the Norfolk coast.
The Grotto on the Thames, Berkshire

To be honest, this one may not open in 2020 but who knows. They’ve had planning consent since 2017 for the restoration of a magnificent Georgian mansion house and country estate, set in 8.6 acres of rolling parkland and landscaped gardens with over 400 metres of exclusive frontage on the river Thames in rural Berkshire. This will become a 53-guestroom hotel with a restaurant and bars, six new two bedroom detached lodges and a spa.
Fairmont Windsor Park, Windsor

There’s no website yet but through my research, I learned that this hotel, which was once the Savill Court Hotel and Spa, has been totally refurbished and redeveloped. It will have a vast spa with an indoor and outdoor pool, salt room, Japanese foot spa and hammam room. The park around should be a nice place to stroll after your spa treatments!
Exciting new hotels in Italy
Castello di Reschio, Perugia

This one looks stunning and if it had been opened for March, I certainly would have taken Mr Big there for his suprise 50th birthday. The estate is know for its villas but it will now open a hotel in June in nine bespoke farmhouses dotted across a 13,400-acre landscape. Photos from the site of the decor are really exciting. There will be a restaurant, wine tasting, truffle and mushroom foraging, horseback riding with Andalusian horses at the Equestrian Centre. The spa will be called the Bath House and be in the ancient wine cellars. It will have a plunge pool and no doubt there will be an outdoor pool as well.

Located inside a traditional Puglian house, guests can expect 11 rooms, a lush garden with a swimming pool and a 5-minute walking distance to the old city center of Ostuni.
Villa Igiea, Sicily

Villa Igiea is a turn-of-the-century palazzo just outside Palermo which is being reinvented by Rocco Forte hotels . The rooms will be designed by Olga Polizzi (who also owns our favourite hotel in the UK) in collaboration with Paolo Moschino of Nicholas Haslam Studios, and provide classic antiques and sumptuous fabrics in serene shades. Classic parquet and exquisite Carrara marble will maintain cool temperatures in the warmest of summers but you can also refresh yourself in the sea or the outdoor pool.

Located on the prestigious and historic St. Barbara Bastions, overlooking Malta’s famous Grand Harbour, Iniala Malta is a bespoke boutique hotel spread over four Maltese townhouses and several ancient vaults, each having been lovingly restored to perfection. They are all decorated with bespoke furniture, fantastical wallpaper and extravagant artworks and some have their own plunge pool. There is also an indoor poo and a spa.

In one of Spain’s less known regions, Aragon, Torre Del Marques is a 15th-century farmhouse turned into an exclusive boutique hideaway with a focus on sustainability. The restaurant will have a zero kilometer approach for instance, sourcing local produces nearby. There will be an outdoor pool and an indoor one in the spa which also offers sauna, jacuzzi and massages service.

Paris will live up to its reputation of luxurry with the opening of the Bvlgari at the prestigious address of 30 Avenue George V (within the Triangle d’Or, the city’s most exclusive area with luxury shopping and entertainment), the hotel will feature 76 rooms, a spa with a 25-meter pool, a bar, and a Bvlgari restaurant and courtyard garden.

Located among the beautiful vineyards of Cheverny, renowned for producing white wine such as ‘Sauvignon’ and ‘Cabernet Blanc’, Les Sources de Cheverny will open its doors with 26 rooms and 23 suites. The hotel’s spa will offer the same range of vineyard based treatments and skincare products as its Bordeaux sister property, Les Sources de Caudalie. The quintessential French château will host two restaurants, an organic vegetable garden as well as seven hectares of vineyards planted around the property.
J.K. Place Paris

Talked about for many months, J.K. Place Paris will finally open in February 2020. The stunning hotel, located on the Left Bank in a former embassy building, will feature a Sisley spa and pool, an Italian eatery by “Casa Tua,” and unique accommodations with Italian and French design influences.
Light Human Hotels E Caselle – Corsica

Surrounded by the Vecchio river and its crystal-clear water, E Caselle was originally designed by Corsican Architect Pierre Puccinelli at the end of the 60’s. The heirs of the first hotel owner, the Pagni family, have now started a complete transformation. The hotel will, interestingly, have a kids bar! The spa will be a partnership with Nuxe Spa Paris and will make this an attractive hotel with indoor swimming pool.
Soho House Paris

Long awaited by Soho House members around the world, the Parisian establishment should welcome, like its alter ego in London , New York or Berlin , a private cinema, a rooftop pool, a gym, one or more bar (s) and restaurant (s) as well as a handful of tastefully decorated rooms. Frequented by the highest levels of the creative world, the hotel empire of Nick Jones has a bright future ahead of it.

Bigger than what I usually list but it should be quite a special place so here you go! Commanding a splendid position on the famous Pont Neuf in Paris, Cheval Blanc will bring its luxury stamp to the right bank. Winter gardens or balconies with panoramic views, spacious living room, independent dressing room, bathroom with a bathtub and a hammam-shower, all the luxury hotels amenities you can dream of. Little ones will be catered for with Le Carousel, a specific space for them. The trend for vineyard hotels continue with this new establishment. The concept of lifestyle and leisure dominates the project, which seats nicely in Alentejo. L’and of Alandroal will offer a gourmet wine cellar, Spa with indoor pool and swimming pool outdoor, treatment rooms, Jacuzzi, gymnasium, Turkish bath and sauna.

Like manhy hotels in Mykonos, the TownHouse is an adult only hotel that offers guests indulgent discreet luxury in the heart of Mykonos Town. An 18th-century aristocratic manor has been renovated to play host to a new boutique hotel. There is a sunset terrace, and @54 bar for partying into the night.

This one is more for families as the villas can be 2 or 3 bedrooms and there is a babysitting service. The hotel will sit just above the idyllic Elia beach where a reserved area for guests of the hotel will provide lounges. Many suites in this new hotel will be able to accommodate up to 3 adults or two adults and two children. A new luxury boutique hotel and one of the few 5-star establishments on the island of Hvar, Maslina is located on the seafront in Stari Grad, the oldest city on the Adriatic coast and listed as World Heritage by UNESCO. Nestled in a pine forest, the hotel has been careful to respect this with the construction style of the 6 buildings. The hotel also prohibits the use of single-use plastic on its entire site. All rooms will have sea view and a garden or a private swimming pool. A restaurant, tapas bar, wine tour and a spa complete the offering.

We loved our stay at One&Only Le Saint Geran in Mauritius earlier in 2018. Despite being a resort, so unusual for us, the decor and attention were worthy a boutique hotel so I’m interested to read more about the first of their European outposts. It will be in Montenegro and have an Espace Chenot Spa, kids’/teens’ clubs and two separate beach clubs.
