Here is my annual list of new hotels opening in 2017.  There are many luxury hotels in the plans around Europe but I only focus on the boutique ones, with less than 50 rooms and a certain “je ne sais quoi”.

Austria

A new 5 luxury star hotel has just opened (January 9) in Austria.  9 suites only so quite exclusive. Three of theM suites can be adapted to accommodate families or you could also rent the 4 bedroom private residence with an outdoor hot tub!

Caribbeans

We are finally going to try a winter sun holiday in February 2018 so expect a few more posts about hotels there! Here are two that I’m going to keep my eye on.

La Villa Marie Saint Barth

This one opened just in mid December 2016 so technically not in 2017 but nearly!  We are big fans of the Sibuet hotels, having stayed at la Bastide de Marie and Domaine de la Baume. We are seriously considering their new outpost in chic Saint Barth.  It’s not cheap but the quality of service, the beauty of the decor and the settings are always amazing. One for a treat.

Hotel Barrière, le Carl Gustaf

The Hotel Barrière group is famous in France for their legendary Dauville hotel.  They have purchased this hotel and are renovating it with the goal of opening at the end of this year. This will be a luxury hotel which will focus on fine dining.

Denmark

Hotel Danmark

You can already book this hotel (although the booking system doesn’t give prices, so it’s a bit weird!).  Hotel Danmark will offer typical nordic design with light and simple but pretty furniture, marble floors and “walls resembling soft velvet”.  There will be a rooftop  and.

Nobis Hotel, Copenhagen

The hotel will be in the landmark building that originally served as the Royal Danish Conservatory of Music. Quite a lot of rooms but  there are some cool features such as a pool and hamam.

France

Villa Maia, Lyon

This hotel is eagerly anticipated in Lyon and will certainly redefine luxury in the city. All rooms will have a terrace and 7 of them will be a suite of 60 square meters. Or course there will be a spa with pool, sauna, hamam, tea shop etc..  

Les Roches Rouges, French Riviera

This hotel has been renovated by the Festen architecture team, who were behind the Pigalle hotel in Paris. Located on the coast near St Raphael, the hotel now enjoys a late-50s modernist design and a wonderful natural sea-water pool. Three bars,  two restaurants, an open-air cinema and many other activities can keep you occupied if swimming is not enough.

L’Arbre Voyageur, Lille

The 4-star luxury hotel L’Arbre Voyageur will be ideally located in the heart of Lille,  near  the Grand’Place.  They promise that each room will be unique in its decor and will be atypical!

Maison Trois Gros

This is an iconic restaurant and house which used to be in Roanne but is moving to the village of Ouches, five miles outside Roanne.  Of course, food will take centre stage but there will be 15 new modern rooms to sleep in as well.

Le Château de Sacy, Champagne

After a restoration or reconstruction of more than a year, the Château de Sacy will open towards this summer. It will host 12 exceptional suites, indoor and outdoor spa and a 40-seat restaurant showcasing the products of hunting and regional products.  If you are a champagne fan, that could be a good base!

La Palmeraie, La Baule

The project intends to restore this place to its former glory as it started as a boarding house for chic people in the Roaring Twenties.  They will focus on families who come regularly to this well known seaside resort with its magnificent long beach . There will also be a restaurant and a bistrot

Hotel de Bouilhac, Montignac

The Bouilhac Hotel is a mansion of the seventeenth century, listed as a historic monument, and is in the Perigord region.. Bouilhac hotel is one of the great buildings of the region. It combines all the architectural traditions of Périgord: ground adobe, stone arches, solid wood floors, high ceilings and moldings, fireplaces “cantou” and empire, retracing the voyage of times by this place.

Les Sources de Caudalie are a very well known luxury hotel in the Bordeaux region with a spa that introduced treatments using the local vinyard grapes and of course they have their beauty products range.  They have now invested in the other grand region of wine in France: Champagne. Currently restoring the Royal Champagne into a five-star hotel with  fifty rooms and suites, a luxury spa and a Michelin-starred restaurant.

Unnamed hotel, Cognac

• Opening in summer 2017

Tony Conigliaro is well known in the UK for opening very popular cocktail bars.  He has now invested into a hotel in Cognac, where the spirit of the same name comes from.  Set on the banks of the river Charente, just opposite the cellars of Hennessy, the property will comprise a bar and restaurant, opening in the spring, with a handful of boutique rooms launching in the summer.

Le Chateau Saint Jean, Monluçon

• Opening November 2017

No website for this new hotel either but I read some information in an article about this former castle being renovated and transformed into a 4 stars luxury hotel with a spa.  Given that works started in October 2016, it seems a bit ambitious to go for November but hey, let’s see what happens.

Hotel du Génie, Paris

• Opening December 2017

Located on a privileged location in the heart of the 7th arrondissement, this former hospital is being turned into a complex with one hotel.  I used to walk by it many times and it’s really close to le Bon Marché!  It will be a luxury hotel with 50 rooms, under the Autograph label by Marriott International.

Germany

Qvest, Cologne

I am very conscious that I don’t post often about Germany. This new hotel though looks interesting.  As Design hotels* say: A former historic city archive located on a quiet square in the shadow of the Basilica of St. Gereon, The Qvest in Cologne links history and modernity by combining neo-Gothic architecture with a curated collection of furniture, contemporary art, and photography.”  It will be very much a reflection of the style and collection of the Qvest magazine, Michael Kaune.

Provocateur hotel, Berlin

58 rooms, a bar which is co-created by Frankfurt’s award-winning Roomers Bar team and an Asian restaurant operated by chef Duc Ngo will offer a perfect surrounding to explore the city and will be a new favourite spot for locals. The hotel is located at “Brandenburgische Straße”, close to Kurfürstendamm.

Italy

Hotel Viu, Milan

Lots of new hotels are popping up in Milan and this one seems to be the Italian version of Shoho house.  It’ll be a the first five-star hotel with a rooftop in the city, complete with sexy pool.  The design and decor will be by Molteni, and dinner by the Michelin-starred Giancarlo Morelli.

Malta

I see more and more articles about Malta and a few boutique hotels opening there.  This one will be in one of Valetta’s old building and will combine antique backdrop with modern furniture.  There will also be a rooftop pool and hammam.

United Kingdom

One of the exciting news it that the Pig may open another hotel in the South Downs this year.  Couldn’t find any details, even on their site where they usually do announce new projects so it might be only for 2018.  I’ll keep you updated.

Oddfellows on the Park, near Manchester

Set to open in April 2017, Oddfellows On The Park will  enjoy  100 acres of bucolic public parkland in Cheadle—just 15 kilometers south of Manchester. This brand new hotel set within a beautiful Victorian mansion will house 22 gorgeous bedrooms a destination restaurant, cocktail bar, and a statement ‘salon de beaute’ fondly named The Pigsty.

Lympstone Manor

For years, people would travel to Gidleigh Place to enjoy Michael Caine’s fantastic food. He has now gone solo and invested into this country house hotel.  Food will of course take center stage but the rooms promise to be quite luxurious too.

Beaverbrook

Now this one really peaks my interest. It has the potential to become a fantastic easy country escape from London . With people such as the former Lime Wood director Justin Pinchbeck and the Soho House designer Susie Atkinson, there should be the right focus between service and wonderful decor.  You can already stay in the Garden House, but the House’s 18 rooms will open later but should be splendid.  A spa is also in the plans with indoor and outdoor pool.

Taymouth Castle Golf and Spa Resort, Scotland

Taymouth Castle Golf and Spa Resort is due to open early in 2017 following a £25m refurbishment. It is located just north-east of Kenmore in Perth and Kinross. The 5-star hotel development includes 54 new luxury suites. Amenities include a championship standard 18 hole golf course, an equestrian centre and fishing within the 450 acre estate.

Another Place, The Lake,  lake district

There are not many nice looking boutique hotels in the Lake District so it’ll be interesting to see what this one turns out decor wise. There will be 40 bedrooms, a restaurant  and a library – as well as Swim Club, including treatment rooms and a 2O-metre indoor infinity pool.
