The new year is on us, yeah !  If you’re not too hung-over after a massive New Year’s eve party, you may feel a sense of excitement about the year ahead.

I certainly do.

Last year was a great one with some home improvements, some nice family holidays and a great wedding.  I learned the benefit of planning big projects and having a feeling of achievements at the end of it. So me, Mr Big and Mademoiselle have several projects for 2015, some of them of course related to this blog and I can’t wait to tell you more about them.

In particular, we want to travel a bit more this year so I looked at which hotels were opening this year in Europe. I came up with the list below. They are all boutique hotels with a few five star luxury hotels thrown in.

I’ll make sure to update the blog and add more info in my regular newsletter so make sure to sign up for it.

The Gainsborough Bath Spa, Bath (UK)

This will be the first hotel to have direct access to the famous Bath thermal waters. A magnificient Georgian, Grade II listed facade will uncover classically decorated bedrooms.  Bath is a lovely city and it’s great to have a new destination hotel to try there.

Hotel de la Villeon, Ardèche, France

Read my presentation and interview with the general manager. I’ve been following this Hotel’s restoration and development for a while and am particularly taken by the focus on simplicity and architecture. It’s located in Ardèche, a wonderful and very characteristic French region. The website will be up soon and the opening date announced shortly as well. I will publish more photos and information about it as soon as possible.

La Reserve hotel and spa, Paris

La Reserve was so far some very pricey apartments but they are opening a hotel with several rooms and suites in January.  The location is in the golden area of Paris, the Champs Elysees, so prices are not that cheap. The draw though could be the indoor pool, a rarity in Paris.

Sant Francesc Hotel Singular, Palma de Mallorca

Sant Francesc Hotel Singular is a new landmark five star luxury hotel located in a charming square in the heart of the historic old town in Palma de Mallorca, opening in Spring 2015.  It will have only 42 rooms and being in a town will offer a pool on the rooftop !

Les Bains Douche – Paris

Now “Les Bains” as we knew it when I was a young student in Paris was THE night club to be seen in. I was lucky to go there for a couple of great parties in the 90’s.  After being closed for security reasons in 2011, it is about to be reborn as a hotel with minimalist design but still the indoor pool that made it famous. Can’t wait to see more about this.

Soho House Farmhouse

Opening in July 2015

I have now found images and  this post about the plans that I discovered is the most visited on the blog ! It will have the signature Soho House style, a mix of coziness and glamour and offer log cabines, rooms and a spa.

Soho House Istanbul

Soho House is expanding rapidly (too rapidly) and is also set to open a members’club and a hotel in thriving Istanbul.  It will have a restaurant with a courtyard garden, two rooftop pools, a gym, a large screening room, a night club, event spaces, and a Cowshed spa.

Zetter Townhouse Marylebone, London, UK

Marylebone is fast becoming the area to be and now the Zetter, famous for its hotel in East London, will open the Zetter Townhouse Marylebone. There will be a spectacular suite on the top floor.

JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa, Venice

Now this is not really a boutique establishment, rather a five star luxury hotel, ut its location on a private island, gardens and pool (a rarity for Venice) certainly make it an appealing possibility. And the prices (at 300£ starting price) are certainly decent for a luxury hotel in Venice.

Niki Beach Hotel, Bodrum, Turkey

Turkey is fast becoming the new European luxury destination. After Aman Resorts which opened in Bodrum 18 months ago, Niki Beach hotel is also planning a new modern boutique hotel with villas as well. There will be indoor and outdoor bathrooms, private pools and access to two sandy beaches. And a spa of course.

Six Senses Douro Valley Portugal

With Aman resorts, Six Senses is a big luxury name in Asia. They have purchased what used to be the design hotel Aquapura in the Douro Valley and will be opening their first European hotel there mid-2015. The Douro valley is marvellous, we were lucky to go there and stay at Romaneira (now closed), a superb place.

Lofoten Opera Hotel, Norway

Opening: late 2015

We are looking into Scandinavia this year for a short trip and this hotel in Norway could certainly be a destination in itself. It’s remote, has an amazing architecture and will also house a spa.

Six Senses Montblanc, France

Opening in 2015

Six Senses is really making a play for Europe and is also opening this ski hotel in the  French Alps.  It will be in the French Alpine area of Saint-Gervais-les-Bains  a one-hour drive from Geneva or as they say “ten-minute gondola ride from Megève” !
