I am so chuffed when I am one of the first to discover new hotels. Hotel de la Villeon just opened at the beginning of April and promises to be a wonderful charming hotel in the Rhone Valley in France.
I discovered it a few months ago and was lucky enough to start a conversation with Valérie Antomarchi, its general manager. I then followed the hotel’s development via Valérie’s well-timed and enticing status and photos updates on Facebook. We quickly agreed that From the Poolside would have the honour of featuring the hotel as soon as it opens.
There is so much to say about the hotel that I will give you two posts for the price of one: this one about the hotel and, tomorrow, an interview with Valérie who shares a bit more about the project. It’s really worth reading for anyone who is a boutique hotel lover.

A historic mansion has found its soul again
The hotel used to be a private mansion which has, over the past four centuries, saw the birth of a literary figure, hosted celebrities in the Arts and Politics, and established a living heritage in the centre of the town of Tournon, a lovely town in the heart of the Rhône and its Valley.
Valérie has a unique writing style which really reflects the mood she wants to create in the hotel. This is how she describes it
[themify_quote]This is a place where History gently brushes the soul, extending a warm welcome and devising a perfect fit with its surrounding: noble materials and elements (some of which are listed as historical monuments) immediately bring to mind elegance and refinement – floorboards, mouldings, mantelpieces, floor tiles, a stone stairway with wrought iron bannister and the walnut front door will all delight every guest craving beauty and softness.[/themify_quote]
Particular care has been given to respect the architectural elements while injecting a new decor that marries tradition and modernity so well.
The hotel now has 16 rooms with flat-screen TV, satellite channels, free Wi-Fi. There is a bar, restaurant, a wonderful terraced garden, an outdoor terrace, a reading and relaxation lounge and a swimming pool will be there this summer. The view overlooking the Hermitage Hills and Tournon Château-Museum is spectacular.
A warm welcome for families
The “Suite Déesse” (Goddess suite) (pictured below) has a private terrace and an adjoining room where a bunk bed allows a family of four to stay. There is also another bedroom next door where you can have two more people. The whole floor is therefore privatised for a big family or a family coming with the grand-parents for instance.
The “Cachette sous les toits” (Hiding under the roof) suite can also have the sofa turned into a bed for a child.
Those rooms can have an extra cot for a baby. The other rooms are not big enough to add a child bed.
As a nice touch, the buffet breakfast is free for children under 7. You can even bring your pet as long as they are on a leash !
As you can see with this info and the photos below, the hotel is splendid. It certainly got the From the Poolside stamp of approval 😉
Make sure to go check Valérie’s interview tomorrow to learn more about the project and what’s so special about this place.
And make sure to book it soon as there are special prices during the opening period as you can see with this update from their Facebook page.
