Chateau de Fonscolombe totally flew under my radar despite all the monitoring and curating systems I have in place to identify new hotels. Yet, it has all the attributes of a From the Poolside hotel!
By the way, make sure to read my quick guide to the best places to eat in Provence. It also gives you ideas for visits and hotel stays in Provence.
A five star luxury hotel in Provence
This luxury hotel just opened in Provence, near Aix en Provence after 18 months of construction and renovation. If you are a lover of typical romantic French chateau, then you are in for a treat.
The grand building has gardens “à la française”, high ceilings, majestic windows with heavy curtains, a piano in the living room and this “je ne sais quoi” that makes you think you are both decadent and chic.
The grounds are of course vast with more than 10 hectares of lush countryside. There are fountains, hidden nooks and a large swimming pool.
Be a “châtelain” for a few nights
Inside there are 50 bedrooms and all the other areas have been thought so that you feel that it’s your grand house: a library, a dining room, a game room, patios etc.. And when you want to go back to just be a guest, then head up to the spa for a bit of professional relaxation or some time in the steam room.
Lovers of wine will appreciate the Château’s wine cellar where you can taste vintage reds, rosés, and whites, all organic and from the Fonscolombe vineyards. And of course you can enjoy breakfast lunch and diner in the restaurant which has a more modern design while keeping a sense of quiet simple luxury.
I am charmed just reading and writing about it. And because it just opened, there are still lots of availability this summer. Have a try and let me know what you think!
