We are big fans of the Costwolds and have been staying in many places there.  All these hotels really know how to create the quintessential British atmosphere with warm fires, cozy blankets, green acres and good comfy food.

Good news, a brand new hotel has now opened.  It’s called the Painswick and  belongs to the same family as Barnsley House (which we enjoyed a few years ago) and a favourite for families Calcot Manor (which we found a bit too family-oriented even though we went when Mademoiselle was only 2 years old).

A family friendly hotel

The hotel has only 16 bedrooms ranging from small to big to a suite which could accommodate a children’s bed in the sitting room. They are located in either the garden wing, the chapel wing or the main house.  All have very appealing decor and beds inviting you to jump in and just relax!

I love their restaurant room with a combination of bright blues and yellows and warm woods. The food looks pretty good too!

Finally, you can enjoy a treatment or two in the rooms they have set up for this. No spa but the expertise of therapists who know the Elemis brand very well!

With prices starting at 99£ only and a 1h only drive from Bristol or 1h45 minutes from Heathrow airport, it would really be a pity not to try it.  I marked it on our list of new stops to try next time we go to the Costwolds.
