After months of waiting and speculation, Soho House finally opened in Paris this week. It’s the first French address of the group, and maybe it took them a long time because the concept of private clubs is not very French.
You may remember that I had alluded to their opening in my post about new hotels opening in 2021.
Planning to visit Soho House Paris soon
They have however created a place that really says “France” according to the photos.
How can you book Soho House Paris? Well as for many of their places, you need to be a Soho House member. I am now a Soho House Friends member (which is basically the much cheaper version of the full Soho House membership) and tried to book it for a forthcoming visit in Paris in a few weeks. Hopefully I’ll be able to report on what it looks like in real life soon.
Located rue La Bruyère, in the trendy Parisian neighborhood of South Pigalle, in a former mansion that used to belong to French poet, artist and avant-garde filmmaker Jean Cocteau, Soho House Paris hosts a restaurant, in the middle of the inner courtyard, a terrace with a pool, a cabaret, a spa, a gym and 36 bright rooms, some of which have marble fireplaces and bathtubs.
Beautiful French style
The rooms keep a vintage tone with old-fashioned tiles, exposed beams, classic Hausmanian fireplaces. Plumpy sofas give a sense of “boudoir”. Some really look beautiful. The various categories start with Tiny, which is typical of Paris and is indeed very small. There are also rooms in the attic which likely will be charming but feel even smaller. The Boudoir category looks quite something though.
Usually Soho House has a rooftop pool but it was not possible in Paris. So it’s on a terrace above the inner courtyard. It’s more of a refreshing one that a proper one to do lengths in but certainly that make it worthy of being on From the Poolside ;-).
