Smart travel tips – February

Italy

Hope your holiday planning is going well. Did you do any of the things I tipped you about in January? If not, no worries, here is February smart travel tips cheat sheet.

Smart ravel tips February. What to book now, where it's sunny and the latest news about hotel openings.

Booking tips

  • Generally, January and February are good months to book long haul flights as many airlines launch special offers.
  • Look at which sports event you want to attend and figure out their opening date for ticket sales. For instance, tickets for Roland Garros tennis French open are on sale now. So it would be a good time to look for flats or hotels in Paris.
  • The Maldives low season is this coming spring (May and June) so now could be a good time to book a special stay there. Weather could be a bit temperamental but at least you won’t be that many people with you.

Hotels opening this month

Not much to report this month in terms of boutique hotels. There are some big ones opening (with the like of more than 300 bedrooms) but that’s not really the ones we like to go to.

The one to mention (even though it has 120 rooms) is Lagare Hotel Milano in Milan, Italy. As my sister asked for some tips for that city, I thought I should mention it here !

Best destinations this month

In the month for romance (Valentine’s day anyone ?) Paris is always a good option, but it can be cold so pack up warm. They had quite a lot of snow in the past few days. See my suggestions for some stylish affordable hotels in the city of love.

The best places to go:

Buenos Aires, Argentina, Africa, Egypt, South Africa, Hawaii

Best to avoid

Indonesia, the Seychelles and Polynesia – it’s their rainy season.

Madagascar, the Reunion and Mauritius where there is still a high risk of cyclones.

Happy planning !
