The is a very French chateau, so of course food is going to be important! In practice, this means that you have a gastronomic restaurant on site and the focus is very much mostly on sophisticated food.
Simple food, room service or quick platters are therefore not on offer. It’s probably the only fault I would find to the domain. As you can see with all my posts, we absolutely adored the place so this criticism is really just a suggestion for improvement.
Introduce a few more simple options to allow for variety and make people even more excited to try the gastronomic restaurant when it’s time.
The food was superb!
Apart from the lack of simplicity, there is really not much to criticize. I also need to commend François, the maitre d’h, who was absolutely charming, efficient, knowledgeable and made you felt at home right away.
Because we were only staying for a few days, we did eat there at every meal and had the opportunity to try many of the dishes which were all delicious (apart from the foie gras, nobody can beat my mum’s foie gras!).
Here are some examples:
- Aquitaine caviar, lobster jelly
- Scallop ceviche
- Kumkat foie gras parfait with an anis brioche
- Roasted lobster with passion fruit
- Pigeon with cabbage
- Grapefruit and orange “risotto”
At lunch and at diner, you can order the 3 courses “menu du marché” which offers the same gastronomic quality at a more reasonable 35 euros per person. You will also get amuse bouche and petit fours!
The best breakfast I ever had in a luxury hotel
Everything is home made: the jams, the bread, the compote, cakes, crepes (light as a feather) rice cakes…. even the chocolate paste! Do try the chocolate paste, it has absolutely nothing to do with the classic one in supermarket and is so much healthier!
The other produce were also top quality: the ham, cheese, yoghurt and artisan jus de fruits.
They can also cook eggs for you or make crepes on demand.
Just superb!
Surprise yourself and friends with unusual locations
They can also arrange a picnic near the ruins, a brunch in a barn in the middle of nature (François told me they were organising one with wood oven pizzas for very important people when we were there) or a family celebration in their private dining room.
So do try it one day. Having lunch there could also be a very easy and affordable way to experience this wonderful place.
