When I saw this isolated rental in Auvergne a few days ago, I knew I had to keep it for Valentine’s day.
It’s called Le Buron de Niercombe and is a totally secluded rustic hideaway, with only candles to lit the place (but hot water, ouf!)
I am not big on Valentine’s day myself (it’s not something that the French do much) but I can certainly see the romanticism in this hideaway, lost in the French mountains of Auvergne.
Le buron of Niercombe is located in the Natural Park of the Volcanoes of Auvergne, overlooking the valley of the Cere at 1500m. The two surimposed vaults have been restored and converted into a gite according to ancestral techniques combined with a deliberately contemporary decoration. Each piece of furniture has been especially designed for the place, such as the table base made with strains of beech trees from the nearby forest.
Back to nature: eat by candle light … but enjoy a hot shower!
There is no electricity and you light up the place by candles only. Water is heated by fire but there is a system that allows to have a hot water shower, yes!
The kitchen is equipped with a gas stove (2 burners) and a gas fridge. You can also do barbecues outside. The larder is equipped with a selection of the best local products for 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 2 dinners, such as rib of beef, auvergne sausage, aligot (delicious cheesy mashed potatoes), truffade, stuffed cabbage, fresh salad, vegetables, , Hiker’s cake … and wine. They can also make vegetarian and even macrobiotic pantries.
This is a place for relaxing, sleeping, reading, and mostly doing lots of lovely walks. And of course being with the love of your life!
Happy Valentine’s day!
PS: if you want to go back to civilisation, they also have a lovely B&B called “Maison d’hôte la Chapellerie”, in Aurillac. I have put some photos in the gallery above.
