La Bastide de Marie review – picture perfect Provence

France Hotels

Nearly the end of January and I haven’t yet booked our holidays for this summer, aaargh !  All the nice places get booked before Christmas so I need to get cracking but there is a lot going on at home.

We are not going to Provence this year, contrary to last summer, but I thought I would point you in the directions to to some other places we stayed at in the Lubéron.  So today, here is la Bastide de Marie, a lovely lovely place near Ménerbes.

Bastide de Marie, Menerbes, Provence

La Bastide de Marie is really picture perfect Provence : it’s an old house with lovely gardens and you arrive to it via a gravelled path off a small road. You have cyprus trees, lush grasses, lavender in pots, crickets singing and of course bright blue skies and sun.

By the way, make sure to read my quick guide to the best places to eat in Provence.  It also gives you ideas for visits and hotel stays in Provence.

We first went there when I was pregnant with Mademoiselle and had a small but very nicely decorated bedroom. The gardens are quiet and you have two pools : one that runs around the building and is heated and another one in the main garden which is made in an old stone and as a result can be a bit cold.

We went back last summer for lunch as the food is really really good. They generally ask you to book half-board and I recommend it as the food is Provençal and tasty and the apéritif in particular is brilliant;  You come down, you help yourself at a buffet laid out with tapenade, salamis, breads, etc.. and then you enjoy your glass of rosé in the lovely outdoor terrace.

For families, they have a couple of big rooms and you need to call them to discuss the best options.

Oh and I forgot that they have a small treatment room where you can have nice massages !

My tips for your family holidays

  • I can’t recommend a room as we stayed there before Mademoiselle but if you have a big wallet or can share with another family, La Bastide de Marie rents a beautiful villa at the edge of the domain, with private pool and service from the hotel called Villa Grenache.
  • It strikes me as more of an adult hotel but older children would definitely enjoy the pools and the staff is lovely with them.
  • If you can’t stay there, you can go and have lunch or diner without being a guest of the hotel

Bon article, bravo.
