Children are very welcome in these soft cosy and very relaxing houses.  There is a lovely mixture of old and new decorating touches and wood burning stoves in 5 of the houses.

Located in the Landes, a lovely area of the South West of France (where my brother lives!) and therefore not far from the beach, this new eco friendly place is bordering a lake.

While most of the lodges are more hotel likes as they are one bedroom only, there is a lodge with a bedroom for the parents and one for 4 children! There is a restaurant on site with a wine cellar and a pool with one side for children and one side for the long laps you may want to do to keep fit!

A very rural retreat in the south of Burgundy, this independent farm house is really nicely decorated.  The house also comes with a separate playroom in a barn where there is a hockey table and board games as well as toys and books for children.

Melanopetra is a 1850 two-storey stone residence built into the core of the beautiful preserved traditional village of Emporios in Nisyros island.  It was very well restored by the owner and architect Anna and has a wonderful minimalist style where the white of the house provides the perfect background to the blue of the sea below.

There are two apartments which can be rented together or separate: one upstairs and one downstairs. Both have access to an outside terrace from which you have stunning views of the sea.

The island has beautiful beaches of black sand or pebbles and clear water, the most famous being Hohlakoi and Pahia Ammos.

You may have already seen it in magazines as this beautiful residence has been featured a few times.  It’s great for families with older children as you are on the beach and have access to a restaurant.  The residence offer ocean view apartments of one or two bedrooms, and family villas for up to 5 people.

This eco hotel in Sicily was renovated from an old farm and wine estate and now has 8 rooms, apartments and houses.  The apartments all have kitchen to prepare your meals.  To be in tune with nature, the pool is with salt water and there is a seasonal vegetable garden from which you get a morning farmer box full of fruit and vegetables.   The coast is not far so you can go to the beach too!

A lovely Georgian farmhouse perfectly renovated in a kind of Soho House bohemian chic way. Most of the furniture and art can actually be purchased if you fancy it! It’s in a perfect location for the Glastonbury festival or for a country Christmas break

A delightful romantic cottage which has two bedrooms so you can bring the kids.  The rate also includes membership to five-star country club Bovey Castle, with use of its pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, and spa. If you can’t go to Endsleigh (which as you know is my favourite hotel), then this could be the next best thing!

I found these while looking for our February half-term holiday in Norfolk.  We needed a bigger house as our family decided to join us but otherwise I would have so liked to stay in these stunningly pretty cottages. Stylishly decorated with a soft blend of oyster, silver and taupe, and subtle hints of shell.

Killiehunty is a  beautiful new B&B in Scotland but they also offer several cottages or apartments to rent. Geordie cottage  sleeps 5 guests in  one master double bedroom, a twin-bedded room and a single bedroom.   The Hayloft is a charming and cosy apartment is perfect for two people and the Bothy, which was the  former staff house is now reinvented as cosy 4-person self catered hide- away.

From the same group that created Killiehunty, now comes this isolated cottage.  It has the same wonderful decoration and cosy feeling as their main property but you are really master of your domain.  It sleeps 6, allows pets and has firewood and housekeeping included in the weekly rent.
