Hello everyone. As I said, less activity on the blog in the next few weeks but a holiday challenge submitted by Karine picked my curiosity. Ski places have not been featured so far as we rarely go skiing but I’m aware that you, my dear readers, may also want to find some stylish places there.
So today’s challenge should be a good start. It comes from Karine who is herself very much into nice places as she is an interior designer. It’s worth checking her site to see the beautiful projects she has completed.
The challenge
- A chalet, flat or nice B&B / hotel for the New Year week
- Roomy as they will be with their 5 years old daughter
- Close to a ski station, ideally near the start of the slopes
- Alpes only, France, Swiss or Italy
- A pretty place without too much pine wood everywhere !
- 2000 Euros budget for a week
Karin emailed me the day after she submitted her challenge to say that she was now looking at hotels as finding a rental was difficult. I had realised the same thing so I’m happy she switched gear as there are more choices when you go the hotel/B&B route.
Here are my 10 ski boutique hotel finds (and one flat).
Ski boutique hotels in France
La Féline blanche, Saint Gervais
- From 115 Euros in Peak season, family room is 155 Euros
- Click here for the latest prices and book*

This should tick Karine’s interior designer sweet spots as this B&B is all about style and home design. Lovely use of grey and whites with the warmth of pine wood just added as gently as possible. You can ski in that station or take a bus to go to Evasion Mont Blanc or even drive to Chamonix.
Milk Hotel, les Carroz
- From 250 euros on a half-board basis
- There is a suite and the superior room seems big too
- Website

Litterally near the station, this hotel makes it easy for anything ski relatd : your equipment can be rented and brought to the hotel via their partner, you can stay in half board, etc..
La Ferme des Vonezins, near la Clusaz
- 2 rooms and one chalet for 4 people
- Need to contact them to have prices
- Click here for the latest prices and book*

This one is a bit of a mystery as there are not many photos on the site. But I like their website which indicates good taste and reviews on Tripadvisor are also very good. The food seems to be quite special. And for children, there are animals galore : dogs, goats, pigs…
Ski boutique hotels in Italy
Miramonti, Italy
- A suite for 3 is from 220 Euros
- Click here for the latest prices and book*

This one is in the Dolomites and near the station of Meran 2000. The hotel has a clear modern decor and there are several suites to consider for families. The website seems to target the young and fashionable ! Oh and there’s a spa and indoor pool.
Lagacio, Dolomites
- 24 apartments
- From £260
- Click here for the latest prices and book*

This is the best of both world: apartments which you can rent but you can also benefit from hotel services and from a great spa on site. The rate also includes daily breakfast. Claraia, Daonella and the Ammonite suite have two bedrooms so make it perfect for families.
Ski boutique hotels in Switzerland
Villa Flor near St Moritz
- 7 bedrooms
- From 206 Euros. Room 1; 6 and 7 which are the biggest (between 30 and 45 square meters) are at 320-330 euros
- Click here for the latest prices and book*

A very lovely house which has a couple of classic bedrooms and a few more modern rooms with very interesting bathrooms. It’s near St Moritz where you can of course go skiing. There is also another station called Zuoz , 5 minutes away.
Chesa Salis in St Moritz
- From 200 Euros
- Click here for the latest prices and book*

The hotel is in the village of Beder which is on the outskirt of St Moritz. It’s only 10 minutes to St Moritz and 8 minutes to the nearest ski lift. The house is quite traditional but some clear decoration and modern elements have been introduced which makes it very pleasant. The suite above is big and could accommodate space for their daughter.
Nira Montana
- 55 bedrooms
- From £160 B&B
- Click here for the latest prices and book*

Despite its number of rooms (55) which is more than what I would normally go for, I chose this hotel because it has a Design look which could appeal to Karine but also because it opens in December 2014 only. Therefore, this could be your chance to get availability. It’s also located in La Thuile, an Italian resort close to the French border and Courmayeur.
Brucke 49
- 4 rooms, one a suite (ie two rooms)
- from 190 Euros
- website

Warning: this hotel doesn’t accept children under 10. It therefore won’t suit Karin but for those of you with older children this is really a gem. Lovely lovely scandinavian type design. It’s located in Vals. Their breakfast look delicious. They also let guests use their kitchen for cooking their own meal.
White Pod hotel, Valais
- 9 pods
- From 500 Euros
- Website

This is quite a fascinating place which is why I left it here despite it being out of budget. The rooms are actually pods, a kind of luxury tent with a solid structure and of course a heater insde. Breakfast is served in the main house. There are pods for families where the children can sleep in a mezzanine.
Hi Stéphanie,
thanks for this great work!
I checked all locations and this is the result:
The White, Mira Monti and Chesa Salis where the only available options for New Year’s eve week. We eliminated MiraMonti for being too far away by car from Paris then added Aiguille Grive chalets to the list, and a friend of mine who lives in Meribel mentioned the Fitz Roy just after you did so! It is actually an old hotel that has been completely refurbished and gained its fifth star on the way.
And the winner is…. Our friend’s chalet near Serre-Chevalier!
We were offered this last minute free of charge option while hesitating between The White and Chalet 1864. But your search hasn’t been vain: it is certainely helpful for other followers and will be for us in the Future: we plan to go to the Dolomites, it is definitely worth a ski visit and much more…
Thanks again Stephanie and I’ll check your boards on Pinterest too for hidden gems everywhere around the word ;-)!
Karine
Thanks Karine for taking the time to post a comment here. Glad to know that it has be somehow helpful and even happier to know that you could find something perfect for you and at no price !
Hope you have a great holiday there and do let us know if you find some other great places yourself.
I’m always heading out to France for the luxury city life but ski hotels look like they can offer a pleasing variation. It’s been a long long time since I hit the slopes – hopefully this Christmas could take me to he Alpes!
