One year of blogging : lovely readers, sparkly ears, jolies choses and Australia…

Et voilà ! 365 days plus of blogging. Well not exactly 365 days as I didn’t post every day but the blog has certainly been in my thoughts every day of this past year.

Blogger's desk, From the Poolside blog on boutique hotels and stylish rentals

It’s a bit a rite of passage to write your “one year anniversary” blog post. With this one, I hope to give you insights about what I set up to achieve and also the plans for the near and longer future.

Thank you to my readers

First of all, I want to thank all of you who come and read this blog, either on a regular basis or because you found it via a search for a chic family holiday place. Being able to get comments, interact online and offline with you is really rejuvenating for the soul.

I still remember the thrill of getting my first holiday challenge request.  It’s nice to see people then going and enjoying a stay at one of my suggestions. I also had a request turning into a lovely email friendship. The “likes” on the Facebook page still excite me and the retweet or “favourite” on Twitter send me a nice “beep” on my smartphone. I can’t help looking into them right away.

As a thank you for your great support, I will soon publish a little contest on the blog to win something nice. Stay tuned.

What you like to read about on this blog

from the poolside still life

I created this blog to help my friends who were asking for cool holiday places and this is still the ultimate goal: being a key resource for families who think that they can have a glamorous holiday with their kids. I am hoping that it’s meeting that need and that some of the posts are helpful.

If you are curious, here are the 10 most popular posts of the past year;

  1. 5 holiday lets in Ile de Ré still available this summer – holiday challenge #2
  2. 2 nouveaux hôtels de luxe ouvrant cet été en France
  3. Rou Estate review – a Greek holiday with style
  4. Spotted – The Pig on the Beach
  5. The ultimate boutique hotels and stylish rentals search tool
  6. The 10 stages of a being a new blogger (and what to do about them)
  7. 6 luxury hotels and b&bs in Provence – holiday challenge #6
  8. La Coquillade review – why you should go before 2015
  9. Mead Cottage review – spending New Year’s eve in the country part 2.
  10. 5 stylish Paris hotels at reasonable prices

Looking at this, there is a good mix of list posts, reviews as well as hotels and rentals posts. I have a feeling though that rentals are more of interest to many of you so I will try to write more about that category.  Am I right ?  Is there other content that you want me to focus on ? Other destinations ?

Learning and creating – my two favourite things in the world

It’s been really great to get into the world of blogging. I can’t believe all the things I learned in such a short amount of time. I even went to a blog course where I met other people as interested as me in blogging. It was quite humble and at the same time a “yeah you” moment to realise that there aren’t that many forty something bloggers like me out there.

Aside from learning – which I always loved, I couldn’t wait to go back to school as a child, I know weirdo !- what I really love about blogging is the creative brainstorm that is constantly brewing in my head. That’s why I created series or tools such as

I have a few more ideas for original content in my mind but as they say “so many ideas, so little time”. However, they will come out one day so keep an eye on this blog !

Next objective: Australia and New Zealand !

I initially created this blog as a creative outlet and a way to learn more about digital tools – which come handy as I do more strategic digital thinking than nitty gritty stuff in my professional life.

Since then, we, as a family, have decided to go on a trip of a lifetime in a few years time to mark a milestone birthday for me and Mademoiselle. Our destination will be Australia and New Zealand with a stop en route somewhere in Asia. Tokyo, Bali maybe.

Therefore my new goal for the blog is to have enough quality traffic so that I can get into some sort of exchange of services with hotels and airlines : a free night accommodation or an upgrade in exchange for great exposure on the blog. Could be too ambitious or cocky but I read somewhere that if you say out loud what you want, it’s easier to get people noticing it and coming to you with offers !

So hotels and airlines out there who fit my and my readers’criteria, do get in touch !

And if any of you dear reader has great tips for travelling there, I would love to hear from you.

Heads up : a bit of a slower posting schedule in the next few weeks.

As much as I love this blog and would like to spend all of my free time developing it, there are moments in life when you have to take a pause. You see, I have a very important family event to plan for and this is coming fast at the end of October.

For that reason, I will have to slow down the publishing rhythm. There is one more holiday challenge and of course the surprise for you coming up so make sure that you sign up for email.

I will still regularly (or as much as I can) post updates on Facebook, InstagramPinterest or Twitter so I hope you’ll follow me there.

May you all have some nice relaxing time planned soon and thank you again SO much for being there and reading my little scribbly piece of the internet.
