Review Mercure Amsterdam Arthur Frommer – Amsterdam week

Netherlands Hotels

Next week, Amsterdam will have its third festival of lights, where artists magnify the city with light sculptures, projections and installations. All major museums and institutions also organise light-related activities. It couldn’t be a better time for me to launch the Amsterdam week that I had planned for some time.

I worked in Amsterdam for several months a few years ago and can vouch for the inhabitant’s welcome and also for the great sense of design everywhere. Petite Passport is a great blog to get recommendations on design restaurants and hotels as well.

So this week, I’ll give you

  • a review of a business hotel with a boutiquey touch
  • a selection of pretty hotels to stay at, all with a sense of style
  • a few lovely rentals so that you can feel at home while touring the city.

Mercure Amsterdam Arthur Frommer – a central fit for purpose business hotel

Today we start with a review of this hotel, which I stayed at numerous times during my business assignment.  It had been redecorated the year before and so was really appealing.  Plus the location was a short walk from my work, which was right in the center of the city, so you may find that useful too.

  • 93 bedrooms
  • From 159 Euros
  • Website

What I liked (Oh Oui !)

What could be improved (zut alors !)

  • Have bedrooms with 3 beds so good for families
  • The location : very central, only 2 tram stops from the heart of the city and the grand train station
  • Possibility to park your car
  • In a side street so quiet in the evening
  • Decor is not business-like and has a good mix of modern and classic Amsterdam touches (the paintings above the beds)
  • Friendly staff
  • Offers bike rental
  • Next to a school so on school days, you’ll hear the children early in the morning
  • Cleanliness has declined
  • Expensive breakfast
  • Some rooms can feel on the small side

  1. This looks really lovely. Some of the revamped Mercures look fantastic. We wanted to visit Amsterdam at Easter and might have stayed her but ended up in Paris instead. I’ve included a link to this post in my latest post talking about Suite Novotel and Accor hotels if you’re interested.

    • Thanks for stopping by Sarah and thank you very much for linking to this post, I’ll make sure to visit your blog to view your own reviews. Really appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment here.
