The most beautiful pool we had on holiday: la Villa Mogador, Cap Ferret

This year, we went back to Cap Ferret for our summer holiday. Mr Big was keen on renting a house with a pool again (despite it being quite rare and expensive there) and we really struck gold with Villa Mogador.

In the summer, Isabelle and Laurent, the owners, rent the house in full. But outside of season, la Villa Mogador is a very welcoming, stylish B&B where you can enjoy a very relaxing stay.

The most wonderful welcome at Villa Mogador

It all starts even before you arrive: Isabelle is the most welcoming hostess I ever encountered.

She contacted me several weeks before to make sure that all was good. She offered to put away the online grocery shopping, she advised us to order floaties online which Laurent, her husband blew up for us before we arrived.

When I mentioned that I had to book several restaurants she immediately offered to take that over. All of this done with kindness and simplicity. She made me feel on holiday even before we had left for the airport!

The wow factor when you walk in

The villa arrival itself doesn’t disappoint at all! Walking into the house, you are amazed by the sense of space with very big floor to ceilings windows opening on to the pool and the forest.

The view gets even better once you go up to the master bedroom. The terrace gives you a magnificent vista over the pine trees in the direction of the ocean. Nothing blocks the horizon, it’s pine tree after pine tree and the blue skies.

Laurent explained to me that Villa was built on top of a dune which is 17 m high. Hence the fantastic view and also the regular wind you get. This is a nice refreshing breeze when the days are very hot.

Laurent and Isabelle bought the house three years ago and built the bottom part to create two big suites that they rent as b&b to be during September and winter months. They also added the pool.

And what a pool! We think it was the best pool we ever had in a rented house. 12 m long, 6 m wide, heated with a great terrace in teck all around. The unicorn floatie, despite being huge (I hadn’t realised this when I ordered it online) still looked small in it!

There are several lounge chairs, a caban area where you can have massage, a bbq, a pool house with a fridge and cutlery to help you set the table which is just near the pool.

A love for design and beautiful furniture

Back to the house, on the bottom you have the two big en suite bedrooms lovely decorated by Isabelle. Upstairs are the living quarters which you can enjoy yourself when you rent the full house.

There is a brand-new kitchen with all the equipment and pots and pans you can imagine. Mr Bigg LOVED the special drawer for Nespresso capsules, all nicely lined up in a variety of colours. This was very symptomatic of the attention to detail and the love for beautiful things that Isabelle and Laurent have.

The living room had the most confortable sofa. As the weather was not very nice the second week, we spent a couple of evenings happily relaxing on it watching the World Athletic Championships.

On that same floor, there are two bedrooms which are ideal for children and a bathroom.

Upstairs is the vast master bedroom with adjoint bathroom and this superb terrace that I mentioned before. On Laurent’s suggestion we had a few apéritifs up there admiring the sunset behind the pine trees.

A great location to enjoy everything that Cap Ferret has to offer

The Villa is in Le Petit Piquey towards the beginning of the Peninsula. It is however very easy to go to the top of Cap Ferret via the road through the pine forest which is just at the bottom of the hill.

Every day, you can cycle in 5 minutes to go to the boulanger and you can go further to the market in Le Piraillan. Another great help was the fact that Laurent and Isabelle included 6 bikes in the rental!

It was our second time in Cap Ferret so we knew where to go and what to do: food markets, shopping in Le Ferret, diners in fantastic restaurants, body boarding on the ocean side, watching toddlers play on the bassin side, horse riding near the house, oysters cabans etc…

We had a great time and Villa Mogador, with its beautiful setting, space and above all very welcoming owners, was one of the main reasons why we did.
